The new reign of Chaos, Shadollsworn!!

Shadoll

As a new archetype, Shadoll just begun its debut in The Duelist Advent last 19th April (OCG), and ever since had proven itself as one of the toughest decks in the current meta so far
. There are currently two bosses of the Shadoll deck: The first is El-Shadoll Nephilim, a powerhouse with 2800 ATK that is able to kill any specially summoned monster that battled her right at the start of the damage calculation. The second boss, El-Shadoll Midrash, is not as strong as her partner in terms of attacking power; however, she only lets each players special summon ONCE for every turn, a devastating condition that is guaranteed to wreak havoc upon any opposing players who run xyz or synchro-oriented decks. In addition, her invulnerability to opponents card destroyer makes the task of getting rid of her from the field incredibly difficult and frustrating.

Another factor which makes Shadoll scary is the fact that their non-fusion monsters' effects activate whenever those monsters are flipped face-up, or sent to the graveyard via card effects; therefore, either destroyed by battle of card effects, their effects will still get triggered.

But here's the interesting thing; while Shadoll may be created as an archetype which focused on the defense, it doesn't mean that the player have to create a deck that is constructed for the sole purpose of defense. As a hasty player, control had never been my favorite play style in YuGiOh; however, Shadoll's monsters and effects is just waaay too nice to be ignored. Therefore, I tried to find an engine which would increase the pace of Shadoll's gameplay, and my choice came to an archetype which is actually the complete opposite of Shadoll itself; the Lightsworns.

While The Shadoll is a defensive deck, Lightsworn is a highly aggressive type of deck which relies on large powerhouses and destructive effects. Their boss card, Judgment Dragon, for instance, is a colossal monster with attacking power of 3000 ATK and 2600 DEF, whose effect 'nuke' the field, leaving it as the only monster standing on the field. Their support cards, such as Lyla, Ryko, and the newly released Michael the Lightsworn Lord are also popular for their destructive effects.
Lightsworns, however, in exchange for their destruction abilities, have a lot of major weaknesses: the first and most obvious is their heavy reliance on grave. While their key cards such as Judgment Dragon requires a specific amount of cards to be in the grave for its summoning, cards such as Dimensional Fissure, Banisher of the Radiance, and ultimately Macro Cosmos have long become the nightmares of the Lightsworn users. The second is the fact that all of their monsters are light-attributed monsters, which means that they are incredibly weak to Light-Imprisoning Mirrors. While Lyla and Ryko are able to handle remover cards such as Macro Cosmos, Light-Imprisoning mirror left them with their effects negated, rendering them useless until the player manages to remove the trap from the field. That is if the opponent doesn't has any spare Light-Imprisoning Mirror at their disposal.
Last is the lack of defense. While it is highly aggressive, the deck is left with a very minimum line of defense. As the player could not control which card that is going to get milled, there is always a huge possibility that important cards that is supposed to be in the field/ hand will also get milled. Therefore, most Lightsworn players don't use traps in their decks, for the exception of the traps which activates in the grave such as Breakthrough Skill or Mischief of the Yokai.

The idea of Shadollsworn first came after realizing that Shadoll's non-fusion monsters' effects also triggered upon being sent to the grave by card effects. Basically, there are two types of decks which I tried to build

The first attempt is the build which is more oriented to the Lightsworns. The focus of the deck is to increase the consistency and fluidity of summoning of the ace card; the Judgment Dragon. To increase the possibility of having Judgment Dragon ready for play, I also integrated the Dragon ruler engine into the deck, which consists of the dragon rulers themselves, and a few copies of Eclipse Wyvern. Instead on focusing on the summoning of the El-Shadoll monsters, the Shadoll non-fusion monsters in this particular build only act as a mere support for the Lightsworns.

Lightsworn oriented build is pretty promising; however, the build which is more oriented to the Shadolls is also not bad themselves. The Shadoll build, despite its lacking in power and explosiveness, is greatly benefited from its backrow destroyer capability, thanks to Shadoll Dragon, and sweet draw power from Shadoll Beast. In addition, I also used Shadoll Lizard and Hedgehog as both of them are my toolbox engine for the deck. I don't use Shadoll Falcon as I haven't find any good way to abuse the card in the deck. Nevertheless, this is just a first trial of deck and it still needs to be updated and reviewed soon.

Although Shadollsworn is also a graveyard-based deck, which means that it is also vulnerable to banisher cards, the deck is also heavily armed with a lot of backrow destroyer such as Shadoll Dragon, Lyla, Ryko and MST (optional). Being both light and dark, the Shadoll monsters also act as the fodder of the summoning of chaos monsters, such as the notorious Black Luster Soldier-Envoy of the Beginning, or Chaos Sorcerer. With the grave filled with Dark-attributed monsters, big dogs such as Dark Armed Dragon also become playable in the Shadollsworn deck. In addition, Shadoll monsters such as Nephilim and Lizard give the player a control of the number of dark monsters on the grave. Most importantly, neither Light-Imprisoning mirror or Shadow-imprisoning mirror will become a major threat for the deck. Despite the reduce in power and explosiveness, the deck had itself compensated with better backrow annihilator, improved draw power, defensive monsters, and an even more fluid and consistent monsters summoning.
